My blog got an AWARD!

A few days ago a fellow blogger, Jenn from “The Art of Better” sent me a message to let me know I received the Liebster Award.

If you’ve never heard of the Liebster Award, don’t sweat it. Neither did I. The German in me recognized the word “Liebster”, which means something like your “most loved”. But how did I get so “most loved”? Curious about the admiration, I googled it and found out that the Liebster Award is somewhat like an exposure-boosting chain “letter” for newbie bloggers with less than 200 followers. It was created to recognize and help discover new bloggers and welcome them to the blogging world. Bloggers are so sweet :)

Once you get it, you have to answer 10 questions, post that on your blog and link to it in the comments of the blogger that awarded you. And then you pay it forward to 5-10 other new bloggers.

Liebster Award Definition

Trust me when I tell you that this will be the first “chain letter” I’m not breaking because this one really does benefit you in the future! Being new in the blogging world, I was immediately excited and honored and ready to respond and share the love. But I was also in the middle of some serious assignments for nutrition school, and work was busy, and it’s holiday season, aaargh! So I had to force myself to put my Liebster Award on the shelf for a while. But not for long! Assignments are done, it’s Friday, I’m ready!

So now, on to my assigned list of questions:

1. Why did you decide to start blogging?

To share, because sharing is caring! I still have a little while until I’m done with my career change but I’m learning so much and I’m so passionate about my new calling as a health coach that I wanted to spread my knowledge immediately. So I started this blog to write about what I’m learning and how you can benefit from it. It’s never to early to give good advice!

2. What is your absolute favorite thing to blog about?

As much as I love food and talking about food, I actually geek out way more about the amazing health benefits of certain foods. What this plant has that helps you boost that, or what that grain does to your body and why and how it’s all connected. I am constantly amazed about how little we know about the effects the nutrients in our food have on our health. My blog is still new and growing, but my ultimate message is to make healthy eating easy and normal for everyone, so you can stop dieting and start eating!

3. What three things can you not be without?

Hm, 3 THINGS. Not persons… ok, there’s chocolate, red wine, and …. a Farmers’ Market. Yes! Because I really wanted to say crusty bread and real butter, and fresh peaches, and crisp lettuce with a good dressing, and so on and so forth, but 3’s the limit here.

4. If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?

I would love to be able to go back in time to see the memories that I have forgotten.

Not relive them – I wouldn’t want to be able to change anything, just observe. I would love to go back to my early childhood and see some of the mischief we created. Especially the day that my brother and I smeared shoe polish all down the hallway. Because I DO NOT remember doing that!

5. If you could have a large block of free time, what would you be doing?

Oh, wow – the possibilities! —– Well, I would cook. I would chop, and simmer, and roast, and bake, and then I would love to share it all like a big potluck. I love being in the kitchen. It’s my therapy, my happy place.

6. What are your main goals for your blog?

Similar to what I mentioned above, what I really want to do is help people to understand the power of food. I want to make healthy eating easy to adapt so it can become your new normal, and not something that feels like you have to do, or else…! I want my articles to give you the A-ha! moments that make you stop dieting and start eating.

7. Since it’s the holiday season, what’s your favorite holiday movie?

Oh, so many! Well, there are a few categories: my family watches ELF every year. I love it (“Smiling’s my favorite!”), but I also love the good old National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. My favorite though is the sappy “Love Actually” – because the stories are so incredibly human and when watching it, I just want to hug the whole world and shout out to everyone to just love each other!

8. Link to your most favorite blog post and tell why it’s your favorite.

This post right here feels really good, but my absolute favorite one is actually still in my head. In the next couple of weeks I will start putting out a series on the big 3 (fats, carbs, proteins) and why you’re doing it all wrong. It will blow your mind!

Until then, my current favorite is “The best pep-talk…” because every time I read it I want to give out high-fives. One of my readers actually printed that whole list and put it on her fridge as a daily motivator. What a compliment! I love my readers (all 37 of them, yes!) !!!

9. What makes you unique? Inside or outside.

A quote I heard this week came to mind: “You don’t have to be different, but be unique”

What makes me unique on the inside is that I have a reassuring, calming effect on people. Except my husband. He says I drive him crazy. But he still loves me. See? Reassuring still.

On the outside? My eyes. I inherited some nice green ones from my mother and I’m often getting compliments on them. So, thanks Mama!

10. Name something on your bucket list and explain why.

The obvious thing is to name a place far away that I want to visit. True – I have one (or 7). I’d love to go visit New Zealand if I can ever afford it.

What’s really on my bucket list is to do a really long trip with my husband and kids to wherever the wind takes us. My kids are only 2 and 4 now, so I want them to be a little older to get more out of that (if we ever get to do this). My grandmother always said that one day we’ll go on a trip around the world. I was fascinated by that and we obviously never got to do the trip, but it’s not too late for me to try. Even if it’s just for a month, but I want my children to see and experience what happiness means in other cultures.

Alright, so that’s it. Now I am passing on the Liebster Award to the fellow bloggers below. Some of you may already have more than 200 subscribers (kudos to you, my apologies!) But maybe you have yet to receive this award…?
